In Year 4 children have the opportunity to go on a 3 day residential trip to Beaumanor Hall, just north of Leicester City close to Loughborough. Accommodation for 2 nights is provided in wooden cabins with children sleeping in bunk beds in dormitories. Staff supervise children at all times. As well as the experience of being away from home with their friends and peers, the children will enjoy a range of activities such as a visit to neighbouring Beacon Hill, an Iron Age hill fort site where there are some of the oldest rocks in the country, highland cattle and a fun labyrinth to explore. There's also shelter building, orienteering and making land buggies!
In the evenings we eat in the grandeur of the Victorian dining room within the hall and leave plenty of time for playing at the adventure playground, ghost stories and games.
In Year 6 children have the opportunity to go to a purpose built residential centre in Derbyshire, called Mount Cook. Check out their website at www.mountcook.org
We do this at the start of Year 6 to unite the year group as a team and allow relationships with Year 6 staff to build quickly at the start of an important year for the children and to build independence skills and confidence.
During the week the children have the chance to enjoy the nature surrounding them in the Derbyshire countryside including canoeing, rock climbing, archery, a high ropes course, rocket building and team building challenges. There will also be shlter building, hiking and a campfire evening.
Pupils love the green space and are up early to run around the large grounds, as they play football, cricket, rounders, basketball and enjoy the freedom of a huge field. Pupils love our week away and it is most definitely the highlight of the year for all of us!
